My best friend recently landed his dream job, but his first week found him doing things quite different from what he wanted. He thought he would be fixing computer codes and programming styles in order to help assess the various problems the programs of his new company have. However, he has yet to be able to do this thus far. Instead of creating hours of code, or even just assessing hours of code to find the one single error which is ruining the program, he got sent to figure out what was wrong with the server room. His boss informed him that the computers have serious problems with running very slowly, and they need to eliminate the chance that the server room could just need some sort of maintenance before they get into the undesirable and very difficult battle of removing modern viruses from every computer in their facility. When he began working in there, he immediately noticed a problem in that it was way too hot for the servers to be moving very quickly. When he reported it to his boss, the boss thought he was on to something. The first thing my friend decided to do to remedy the problem was clean and change out the cooling fans in each of the server towers. once he had completed that task, he assessed the bigger problem of the HVAC. The cooling system needed to be tweaked to do a lot better job of cooling off that room. So my friend ended up going up into the ductwork and rerouting more cool air to be sent into the server room. Once that was taken care of, the computers at his company started getting jumps in performance almost immediately. Though it’s not his dream job yet, he is hopeful that his success in fixing the server room will get his bosses noticing him.
