For about the past ten years, I’ve worked in the office of a Heating and A/C maintenance company. I run the office, schedule service, and keep the books. The pay and schedule are great, plus I enjoy the work. The only downside is the heating and cooling in the office. I work for a heating/cooling business and yet the equipment we have is ancient, unserviced and in terrible shape. While the crew of techs installs state-of-the-art HVAC systems every day, our building gets neglected. Not a single tech bothers with annual maintenance, and no one ever changes an air filter except me. Because of this, the office is hot plus humid in the summer season, and drafty and cold in the winter. The energy bills are unnecessarily high, plus the air quality is terrible. Whenever the heater cycles on I beginning sneezing and coughing. When the A/C runs, the office smells musty and I get a headache. I constantly beg the boss to service our systems but he ignores me. Since I’m the guy who sets up their multiple maintenance calls I’m tempted to book an appointment for our office. Just cleaning and adjusting our systems would improve energy efficiency, comfort and cleanliness of the building. In fact, they should upgrade and replace the equipment with a new HVAC system. Twenty-five years is a long time to rely on an old system.
